Dezza is a two-seater sofa that makes up the renowned, eponymous seating collection designed in 1965 by Gio Ponti. The collection embodies some of the designer's most significant design principles: Dezza represents a revolution thanks to its ‘system’ modularity, which allows assembly using a limited number of pieces. Characterising elements include tapered triangular-section legs and slender armrests that lend lightness and dynamism. The workmanship of the back cushion and seat cushion is enhanced by a pair of leather-covered buttons, and the ends of the mounting elements on the sides are in chrome-plated brass.
The sofa and armchairs in this collection owe their name to the building in Via Dezza, Milan, where Gio Ponti lived from 1957. The house was a personal refuge, but also a creative workshop where Ponti experimented and developed his most avant-garde ideas.
