Dezza armchair is designed by Gio Ponti for Poltrona Frau with a seasoned beech wood frame and polyurethane foam padding; the seat features elastic webbing springs (12) or elastic fabric with polyurethane foam and polyester wadding padding. The Poltrona 48 comes with a goose down headrest integrated into the backrest. Upholstery options include leather or fabric, with the possibility of having leather on the outside and fabric or Cavallino on the inside. Legs available in ash or walnut. In the Poltrona 12, only the seat cushion can be covered in pony skin, and walnut legs are not available.
Designed in 1965, the Dezza armchair embodies some of the most significant design principles of Gio Ponti, both formally and methodologically. Aesthetically, the armchair stands out for its legs with a characteristic tapered triangular section, an element that gives lightness and dynamism to the design. Methodologically, the Dezza armchair represents a revolution with its “system” modularity, allowing assembly with a limited number of parts. Notably, Gio Ponti conceived this armchair and its variants at the age of 74, demonstrating continuous innovation in the field of design. Since 1957, Ponti had been living on the top floor of the house he designed on Via Dezza in Milan, a residence that also reflected his architectural and stylistic principles. This living environment not only served as a personal refuge but also as a creative laboratory where Ponti could experiment and develop his most avant-garde ideas.
