1919 Ultime Notizie armchair is designed by Renzo Frau and reimagined by Fornasetti for Poltrona Frau.
Frame is made from seasoned solid beech, with a seat padded in rubberized horsehair and backrest and armrests crafted from hand-shaped vegetal horsehair. The seat cushion is filled with goose down. The structure features hand-tied steel biconical springs fastened to jute webbing. Feet are in dark walnut-stained beech, with the front legs mounted on brass castors.
Available without tray, with a wax-finished Canaletto walnut tray and a resting brass ashtray, or with a natural oak wine-glass holder tray complete with a small brass ashtray. Castors, tray arm, ashtray, and nameplate are all available in either gold or gunmetal finishes.
Upholstered in Pelle Frau® ColorSphere® Impact Less leather, with surface decorated using a refined technique reminiscent of silk-screen printing. The backrest features a handcrafted capitonné finish and is adorned with a row of leather-covered decorative nails.
The 1919 "Ultime Notizie" armchair is the result of an extraordinary collaboration between two giants of design and decorative arts: Poltrona Frau and Fornasetti.
Inspired by the Model 128, originally designed by Renzo Frau and introduced in 1919, this piece is a masterful fusion of tradition, innovation, and theatrical flair.
Its silhouette echoes the opulence of rococo bergères, reinterpreted with a contemporary elegance that adds both character and personality. The enveloping, refined backrest is enhanced by classic, hand-tufted capitonné upholstery. Notable details include a leather-covered row of decorative nails that give the back a tailored finish, and a swiveling tray arm—crafted from bronze with a gold or gunmetal finish—paired with a waxed Canaletto walnut tray. A subtle, sophisticated nod to the early 20th-century rituals of relaxation, interpreted through a modern lens.
In the special "Ultime Notizie" edition, the armchair is adorned with the iconic trompe-l’œil motif created by Piero Fornasetti in the 1950s and reinterpreted today by his son Barnaba. The design—delicate butterflies fluttering over vintage newspaper clippings—is printed on Pelle Frau® leather, creating a visually and tactilely unique surface: light and surreal, yet with a pleasantly raised texture. A poetic tribute to transformation and the fleeting nature of beauty.
This exclusive edition is part of a capsule collection that also includes the refined Isidoro bar cabinet by Jean-Marie Massaud, upholstered in the same signature Fornasetti motif.
