Born in 1896 in Geneva, Jeanneret distinguished himself as a Swiss-French architect, designer, and urban planner of remarkable talent. A prominent collaborator of the renowned Le Corbusier, he contributed to the creation of iconic architectural works, including the majestic Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, India, in 1951.
Jeanneret left a distinctive mark in interior design and furniture, characterized by square and rigorous lines and ingenious inverted "V" shaped supports. Local materials such as teak, Indian cane, and Vienna straw were masterfully employed to create iconic pieces of furniture, including the famous 051 chair, found in various administrative offices of the Secretariat building.
His collaboration with Le Corbusier and the brilliant assistant Charlotte Perriand produced a series of legendary furnishings, which were reissued by Cassina in the 1960s, becoming part of the renowned LC collection.
Jeanneret was also involved in the design of the urban plan of Chandigarh, an ambitious challenge that shaped the ideal city for over 15 years, almost until his death in 1967.
