TL59 table is designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina with base in black textured powder-coated aluminum, with a beveled-edge tempered glass top—or alternatively, a wooden top hand-coated in sculpted plaster and finished with a metallic powder, which also extends to the base. This exclusive metallic finish is available only for the rectangular versions in 320 cm and 360 cm lengths.
Originally conceived in 1975 by the Scarpa duo, the TL59 has been reimagined by Cassina: alongside the round version that stays true to the original aesthetic, the collection now includes two rectangular variants that enhance the table’s architectural presence. The TL59 explores the interplay of elementary shapes—circles and rectangles chasing one another, straight lines paired with curves, parallels meeting perpendiculars. The result is a piece that is both balanced and unexpectedly expressive.
Its base, cast in aluminum, consists of two circular disks connected by vertical supports forming a central triangle. This composition of solids and voids turns the table into a veritable architectural sculpture.
A standout among the new variants is the version coated in a layer of plaster, hand-applied with a spatula to create delicate, parallel reliefs across the surface. Once dried, the pattern takes on a striking three-dimensionality, further enhanced by a metallic powder finish—in Bronze, Brass, or Titanium—that also coats the base. This tactile treatment pays homage to the so-called Scarpa plasters, an architectural hallmark and source of inspiration for the designers. The result is a top rich in rhythm and texture.
