The Noonu sofa is designed by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia with a lower edge in die-cast aluminium, available in a brushed polished finish, black chrome-painted or pewter-painted. Frame made from tubular and shaped steel profiles, with cold-moulded flexible polyurethane foam padding (Bayfit®). Seat cushion crafted from contoured polyurethane with differentiated densities, back cushion filled with polyester fibre, and armrest cushion with feather and viscoelastic polyurethane. Upholstery is available in leather or fabric.
Available as a linear or modular sofa, Noonu offers versatile composition options. Modules can be completed with armrests or bolster-style backrests in shaped polyurethane, supported by die-cast aluminium frames and webbing in fabric or leather.
Noonu captures the essence of an atoll – a serene retreat suspended between the enchanting hues of the Maldives. Conceived by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia in 2021, this upholstered system is a natural evolution of the journey begun in 2018 with the Atoll collection. The design of the sofa is fluid: the supporting structure vanishes from sight, creating the illusion of “floating islands” in mid-air. The deep seat, defined by a single large cushion, offers a luxurious tactile experience, making Noonu not only visually striking but an irresistible invitation to relax. The sloped backrest accommodates freely arranged cushions to suit individual comfort, while a mobile support element – a bolster attached with elegant straps to a die-cast aluminium frame – functions interchangeably as a terminal armrest or headrest, adapting to any setting.
Noonu introduces stylistic innovation through four distinctive shapes: square, rectangular, and the original “piano” and “sail” configurations. The “piano” form creates a gently enveloping curve along the backrest, while the “sail” shape evokes the soft, organic lines of a chaise longue, designed to soothe both body and mind – a direct reference to the places that inspired Noonu.
Antonio Citterio describes it as a “true domestic island”: Noonu can interact with walls through straight and curved lines, or take centre stage in a room, becoming a statement of elegance and comfort. Each element stands beautifully on its own or as part of a creative composition, pairing seamlessly with other B&B Italia icons like the Atoll poufs and seats, Mirto accessories, or the Diesis and Pianura coffee tables – completing a stylistic narrative that bridges past and present.
