SK207 table designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Agapecasa is round with a central support in cast bronze with a lost wax mold, surface treated with a hot applied silver nitrate ball. Given the artistic value of the workmanship, the bronze base has a limited production of only 100 signed and numbered copies.
We are still around the late 1950s and we have already seen Mangiarotti working on pre-cast architectural elements in prestressed concrete, gravity joints in precision joinery and curved plywood product systems. Driven by curiosity and passion, constantly exploring different techniques and materials, in 1959 Mangiarotti made his foray into metalworking with the SK207 table. For SK207 he chooses a rather unusual manufacturing technology: the ancient lost-wax casting technique, usually used for the production of sculptures. This artisanal technique makes each object unique in stark contrast to the conventional wisdom that sees the table as a mass produced object. The process, the geometry, the weight and its resistance, allow the conical base of SK207, despite the small support surface, to support large marble tops for a sophisticated combination of materials and surfaces.
The process is long and cumbersome and involves a large number of different steps. Today the production takes place (it is a real event) near Verona, in a district specialized in this technology, widely used by artists in the past.
