Original Ptolomeo® bookcase is designed by Bruno Rainaldi for Opinion Ciatti with structure and shelves lacquered matt black, glossy white RAL 9003 or matt corten effect; polished stainless steel (the inside of the shelves is satin finish). Solid base in stainless steel or lacquered, coordinated with the frame, engraved with the designer’s signature on the base. Optional Ptolomeo® Shelf that can be fitted between the shelves. Available in three sizes.
Original Ptolomeo® is a vertical free-standing bookcase with an extremely essential design, a container in which all the "superfluous" has been eliminated to highlight the necessary, namely books. The thin steel shelves that make up the column gradually disappear as the column is filled with books, up to make the structure totally imperceptible and it appears as if the books are standing up on their own.
Winner of the Compasso d'Oro 2004, Original Ptolomeo® translates an idea that is as simple as it is ingenious: turning a pile of books into a design object. With his name the designer wanted to pay homage to the book and to whom is recalled as the first person to have taken care of them: Ptolemy I Soter, whom we owe the idea, in the 3rd Cent. b.C., of establishing the Royal Library in Alexandria in Egypt.
This library of design produced by Opionion Ciatti has become a contemporary icon, a harmonious piece of art that, slight, tall and minimal, takes up little room and can be placed in any context from the more traditional to the more contemporary.
