Due Foglie D.157.6 sofa designed by Gio Ponti and riedited by Molteni&C with a solid fir-wood structure and Polix, upholstered in high-density variable-density expanded polyurethane, with leather or fabric cover. Black chromed steel base with non-slip plastic support tips.
In the panorama of post-war art and design, the appearance of "Due Foglie" at the XI Triennale in July 1957 marks an epochal moment. The context of the exhibition, focused on the intersections between the arts, contemporary architecture, and industrial design, provides this masterpiece by Gio Ponti with its first exhibition platform. However, the echo of this extraordinary piece is not limited to that venue, as in the autumn of the same year, it returns to shine at the exhibition "Colors and Shapes in Today's Home" at Villa Erba, in environment 18. Its history takes another significant turn when, after an apparent disappearance, it reappears at Villa Planchart in Caracas, one of Gio Ponti's most celebrated architectural creations. "Due Foglie" stands out as a pioneering project, anticipating by over a decade the trends of industrial design that will only fully emerge in the '60s and '70s thanks to the availability of technologies, particularly the invention of cold foam polyurethane foaming. Thanks to the collaboration between Molteni&C and Gio Ponti Archives and the consultation of previously unpublished technical and photographic documentation, it was possible to include the reissue of "Due Foglie" in the renowned Heritage collection. Molteni&C wanted to recreate the work as faithfully as possible to the original, using sustainable construction technologies that reflect the innovative and timeless essence of this design masterpiece.
