Tulip chair is designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll with base in cast aluminium with Rilsan coated finish for the white and black versions and shell in moulded fibreglass reinforced plastic bonded finish matching base color.
Available with swivel or fixed base and with either an upholstered seat cushion, or fully upholstered inner shell with seat cushion in fabric or leather.
The popular Tulip chair is designed and built to eliminate the "slum of legs" underneath chairs and tables that, according to Saarinen, helped make not an harmonious but an "ugly, confusing, unrestful world" so the history of this chair goes back to 1958 when the designer wanted to satisfy a specific aesthetic need and the seat is characterized by a single and essential stem. The Tulip chair has been able to give softness and personality to an element that, most of the times, was considered only in function of its comfort and it has become the icon of an era, one of the first projects born of the new way of designing.
This chair, also available as an armchair, is part of the Pedestal collection that also includes tables and coffee tables with round or oval top of different sizes.
