Description
Description

Ant 3100 dining chair is designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen with structure made of pressure moulded veneer and base with three legs in chromed or powder coated tubular steel, mounted with black support spacers and a black cover cap and with black synthetic material ferrules.

It is available in ten different natural veneers or in two finishes - coloured ash or lacquered - in 16 colours.

The 3100 stackable chair which, thanks to its aesthetic appearance reproducing the insect's body shape, became known as Ant, has been designed in 1952 to meet a specific need: a stackable and light chair for the canteen of a pharmaceutical company.

The single plywood sheet used for the shell is folded to create both backrest and seat and is reduced in the lumbar area, supporting and embracing the body of the user; this trick increases the flexibility of the backrest and avoids the risk of breaking point in the intersection with the seat.

Thanks to its thin body, Ant is a perfectly stackable chair (up to 8) with a considerable versatility of use, from domestic to collective or work ambiences such as canteens, auditoriums or meeting rooms.

Drawing inspiration from the hardworking Ant, was born an icon that has changed the history of the seat, becoming the founder of other masterpieces, such as the Series 7.
