ME FROM OUTSIDE is a mirror collection designed by Pietro Terzini for Cassina, featuring an oval-shaped structure in silk-screened glass. Available in three versions: WE SEE WHAT WE WANT TO SEE, I LOVE YOU (Limited edition of 100 pieces), and SOMETIMES I LIE (Limited edition of 100 pieces).
Conceived as a powerful visual narrative, ME FROM OUTSIDE invites deep reflection on personal identity and our relationship with contemporary society. At the heart of the collection is a large oval mirror that echoes the iconic “Les Grands Trans-Parents” designed by Man Ray and produced by Cassina since 2013. The mirrors are defined by their strong visual presence and a minimal, contemporary aesthetic, each bearing one of three bold, uppercase statements silk-screened onto the glass.
A universal symbol of introspection, vanity, and self-awareness, the mirror here takes on a conceptual dimension: no longer a merely functional object, but an emotional and cultural device. It reflects not only the external image but also provokes a deeper confrontation—between what we see and what we feel, between our subjective perception and the way we are perceived by the outside world.
The first model in the collection, WE SEE WHAT WE WANT TO SEE, is part of Cassina’s Details accessory catalogue. This piece highlights how our vision of the world—and of ourselves—is often shaped by perceptual filters, conscious illusions, and selective inner truths. The act of seeing becomes interpretative, shaped by intention, omission, and desire.
Completing the series are two limited editions of 100 pieces each. The first, bearing the message I LOVE YOU, emphasizes the importance of self-love—an invitation to care for, accept, and value both our inner and outer selves. The second, SOMETIMES I LIE, confronts us with the mirror’s own ambiguity: a surface that may return a distorted, ambiguous, or deliberately masked version of reality—just as we may deceive ourselves when we’re not ready to face the truth.
Underscoring the artistic essence of the project, Pietro Terzini personally signs a metal plate affixed to the back of each limited edition model, turning every piece into a unique, collectible artwork.
