Veliero designed by Franco Albini for Cassina is a bookcase consisting of two pillars in ashwood with brass tip ends and 4mm stainless steel tie rods. Anchoring elements of the rods are in burnished iron with the central rods in polished brass.
The shelves are made of tempered and 3+3 mm. stratified glass. Shelf supports in ashwood with polished brass ends. Diagonal reinforcing tie rods for the shelves in polished brass. The base is in steel with the covering panels in ashwood.
Available in natural ashwood or in a limted edition in 50 pieces in black stained ashwood.
The “Veliero” bookcase recalls the stays of a sailing boat in its shape and structure. Two ash wood pillars on which shelves in stratifi ed glass are suspended using a system of steel rods.
In 1940, it was a challenge for Franco Albini himself, who made just one model expressly for his own home. In 2011, it was a challenge for Cassina, which has revived this model by solving the structural aspects with a re-issue that keeps the original model’s lightness and transparency intact.
