Mikado chair is designed by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby for Vitra with a non-stackable wooden base in oak or aluminium base with powder-coated or polished finish; flexible backrest in recycled post-consumer polypropylene and polyurethane foam padding, with leather or fabric upholstery. With carpet pads or felt inserts. Available as armchair with armrests or as a side chair.
The Mikado model was designed from the beginning with a strong focus on sustainability. The covers are not glued and are completely removable, making them easy to clean or replace. The seat legs are interchangeable and can be replaced individually, choosing from various materials such as wood or recycled aluminium. However, these replacements should only be carried out by qualified personnel.
The inner panel of the seat is made of aluminium with a high recycled content, while the backrest shell is made of post-consumer recycled polypropylene. This material can be easily separated from the foam upholstery during the recycling process. The idea of easy interchangeability of components gives Mikado lasting versatility and, consequently, a long service life.
With its serene and imposing presence, the Mikado chair is designed to attract attention not only for its refined design, but also for its exceptional comfort. Whether it is used around domestic dining tables, in restaurants or meeting rooms, Mikado offers a superior seating experience thanks to the padding on all sides and the ergonomic movement of the backrest. A mechanism as simple as it is ingenious, hidden beneath the seat, allows the backrest to tilt slightly, ensuring optimal comfort for everyone who sits.
