The Butter modular sofa is designed by Faye Toogood for Tacchini with wooden frame padded with polyurethane foam in varying densities and a seat cushion filled with hypoallergenic fiber, all upholstered in fabric.
Butter is a modular sofa that stands out as an irresistibly soft and sculptural furnishing element, capable of transforming any space with its enveloping and sensorial presence. Its padding, as smooth as freshly churned Cornish butter, expands into generous, building block–like volumes, offering the freedom to compose and reconfigure the seating with creative ease.
In designing this piece, Faye Toogood sought to capture the gentle, everyday act of shaping cold butter straight from the fridge—an intimate, tactile experience. “I wanted to create a seat as comfortable and tactile as butter, and the Butter sofa was born by moulding soft butter with slippery fingers,” she explains.
The Butter sofa fully embodies the experimental, unconventional spirit of the Toogood studio. It’s a piece that surprises with its soft geometries, the textured richness of its upholstery, and its compositional versatility. A design object that redefines the perception of the living space with elegance and poetry—inviting gesture, touch, and authentic comfort.
