Astral is a metal piece of furniture that, like the other items in the Cosmic collection, celebrates the beauty of irregular and elliptical shapes. Faye Toogood's creative process is primarily inspired by handmade models using everyday materials. The profiles of Astral were initially shaped with a flexible aluminum mesh and later scaled up and transformed into steel. Similar to the Orbit tables and Lunar lamps, Astral showcases soft and enveloping forms that intersect harmoniously.
The Astral piece is conceived with Toogood's signature playful and organic approach, resulting in functional sculptures that blend art with everyday use. The furniture's sinuous curves create an optical illusion, giving the impression that there are no straight lines. However, the shelves are perfectly leveled and functional, ready to hold and highlight cherished items for those who choose to furnish them.
