B-Table extensible Dining Table is designed by Marcel Gascoin for Gubi with base in solid oak or American walnut and top in oak or American walnut venner with matt lacquered finishing.
B-Table is not a classic extending table, but is two tables in one, each with a very different aesthetic. Engaged with the French modernist movement, together with Robert Mallet-Stevens, Charlotte Perriand, René Herbst, and Le Corbusier, Marcel Gascoin helped to create the of useful and pragmatic furniture to serve the needs of the French populace in the post-war reconstruction phase. With B-Table Gascoin has reinvented the traditional folding table, offering a multifunctional solution: the square tabletop features an additional curved section on each of its four sides; lifting up just two sections onto a curved crossbeam underneath and rotating the tabletop causes the other two sections to rise. All four sections slide effortlessly into magnetic locks, securing them in place. This smooth and simple transition means the table can be transformed from one form to the other – and back again – by one person in a single fluid motion. A simple transition, which transforms a surface for four in a convivial table around which can comfortably sit up to six people. It is this size optimization, as well as its understated elegance, that resonates with city-dwellers in smaller spaces and today’s compact homes.
