Fumie Shibata was born in Yamanashi, Japan.

 

She has collaborated with numerous Japanese and international brands, gaining extensive experience in various fields such as furniture production, interior design, everyday objects, and technology applied to the healthcare sector. She has also overseen the creative direction of unique capsule hotels. A distinctive feature of her work is her inclination towards soft yet precise forms. Her designs are also characterized by their ease of use.

 

Several of her projects have received international awards, including the EDIDA LIGHTING CATEGORY AWARDS in 2021. Other recognitions include the DFA Design for Asia Awards Grand Prize, the iF Design Award Gold Prize, and the Red Dot Design Award.

 

Furthermore, Fumie Shibata is a member of the JAPAN DESIGN COMMITTEE, a professor at Tama Art University, and was the president of the jury for the Good Design Awards from 2018 to 2019. She is also the author of Forms within Forms.
