Monte Carlo Sofa is designed in 1929 by Eileen Gray for ClassiCon with frame in chrome-plated tubular steel, beech frame with rubber webbing, upholstery polyurethane with polyester fibre, cover in fabric or leather, height-adjustable metal gliders..
Eileen Gray‘s perhaps most exclusive sofa radiates an allure from which no beholder can escape. The soft curve, the most unusual lines of the backrest make the Monte Carlo an incomparable and striking one-of-a-kind in the history of 20th century design (like Eileen Gray herself). Monte Carlo unites reserve and exuberance, quiet calm and dynamism. Seldom is such perfect balance seen in a piece of furniture.
Eileen Gray’s achievement in design and architecture is considered pioneering work of Modernism. During her lifetime, she was honoured by the London Royal Society for Arts with the title Royal Designer for Industry, and she is one of few women mentioned in the same breath as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. ClassiCon produces her iconic furniture designs as the sole and rightful licensee worldwide, in coordination with Aram Designs Ltd., London.
