Lou Perou extensible Table of 1932 is designed by Eileen Gray for ClassiCon with frame in chrome-plated tubular steel, part of the tabletop can be folded up for extension, tabletop in MDF high-gloss lacquered in black or white., plastic gliders in black.
Like the majority of Eileen Gray‘s tables, this one too can transform itself. And as always she found an unexpected solution. The folding section of the tabletop is supported by a single leg out of chromium-plated steel tubing – a conscious break in the otherwise perfect symmetry of the table. It is named after Eileen Gray‘s last home, Lou Perou, which she built at the age of 76 above St. Tropez. The name itself is in memory of a trip to Peru in the year 1929.
Eileen Gray’s achievement in design and architecture is considered pioneering work of Modernism. During her lifetime, she was honoured by the London Royal Society for Arts with the title Royal Designer for Industry, and she is one of few women mentioned in the same breath as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. ClassiCon produces her iconic furniture designs as the sole and rightful licensee worldwide, in coordination with Aram Designs Ltd., London.
