Bar Stool No. 1 is designed in 1928 by Eileen Gray for ClassiCon with seat height-adjustable, threaded rod and column chrome-plated steel, base cast aluminium, powder-coated in black or white, upholstery polyurethane with polyester fibre, cover in fabric or leather, changeable gliders in felt or plastic.
Eileen Gray designed bar stools in several variations. The Bar Stool No. 1 is the simplest and most handsome of them all. It initially found itself, along with the folding mirror Castellar, in the wash corner of her bedroom in her summer home E 1027. It proves to be a versatile piece of furniture in that it is height-adjustable and thus willingly tailors itself to guests of differing sizes.
Eileen Gray’s achievement in design and architecture is considered pioneering work of Modernism. During her lifetime, she was honoured by the London Royal Society for Arts with the title Royal Designer for Industry, and she is one of few women mentioned in the same breath as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. ClassiCon produces her iconic furniture designs as the sole and rightful licensee worldwide, in coordination with Aram Designs Ltd., London.
