Utrecht armchair is designed by Gerrit T. Rietveld for Cassina with steel supporting frame, polyurethane foam and polyester padding and fabric or leather upholstery with two types of visible stitching (saddle stitch or zig zag) in five different colours.
Designed in 1935 for the department store Metz & Co. and then thought for largescale retailers, this model is the choice of Rietveld to adopt an approach to comfort and more "market-oriented relaxation". In the absence of material diversification of the individual components uniformly coated, the distinction of the parts is suggested by the presence of a contrasting stitching, emphasizing the geometry of the armrest and outlining the elements of the seat and backrest.
