Elling Buffet 636 sideboard is designed by Gerrit T. Rietveld for Cassina with structure and decorative strips in solid wood available in natural varnish or black dyed. The storage compartment, shelves, drawers and doors are made of ash plywood panels veneered in the same finishes of the structure. The sideboard is assembled by a system of joints and wooden dowels and rests on black plastic feet.
The Elling Buffet sideboard was designed in 1919 as a manifestation of Neoplasticism. It was rebuilt in 1951 under the supervision of the author for an exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, following a fire in which it was lost. Cassina re-edit the project in collaboration with the heirs, bringing into vogue one of the most original beliefs of design. The influence of Wright’s Modernism and Godwin’s Anglo-Japanese art come together in this composition of lines that create different planes, drawers, containers and bookcases following a horizontal and vertical setting that gives the Elling sideboard a great dynamic force in the name of modern design.
