Tobi-Ishi table is designed by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby for B&B Italia with legs crafted from high-density Baydur® polyurethane resin or solid wood, and a top made from either MDF fibreboard or veneered particle board with solid wood accents. Available in brushed natural elm or in glossy or satin lacquer finishes, and comes in three sizes, with either a round top or a shaped rectangular one.
With its strong sculptural presence, Tobi-Ishi is offered in both round and rounded-rectangle versions. Its name references the ornamental stones found in traditional Japanese gardens—an homage to the inspiration behind the design: austere elegance, formal balance, and a deeply tactile materiality.
Viewed from different angles, the table reveals a dynamic interplay between the cantilevered top and its distinctive bases, creating a sense of movement and depth. This harmony between function and form makes Tobi-Ishi a true icon of modern minimalism—perfectly at home in contemporary interiors or more refined, character-filled spaces.
Its versatility is also expressed through a wide range of finishes: the natural warmth of wood, or sleek lacquers in satin or high-gloss, ranging from soft, subtle tones to bolder hues like candy red and smoke blue. These options allow for a highly personalized interpretation, tailored to suit diverse tastes and settings.
The Tobi-Ishi table is also available in a cement slurry effect finish, or with a round top and marble base.
