Mini Papilio chair is designed by Naoto Fukasawa for B&B Italia with tubular steel and steel profiles internal frame, padded with cold-moulded flexible polyurethane foam Bayfit® and lined with polyester fiber. Upholstery available in fabric or leather. Swivel base crafted from painted steel laminate and extruded aluminum in a metallic grey finish, offered with or without an automatic return mechanism.
Mini Papilio reinterprets the symbolic image of a butterfly as an inviting gesture, translating the iconic aesthetic of the Grande Papilio into a more compact and playful form. Upholstered in either fabric or leather, it brings refined versatility to both residential and public settings, striking a balance between comfort and visual lightness.
Its 360-degree swivel base includes an optional automatic return to the original position—a functional detail that enhances ease of use and fluid motion. The design is based on an inverted truncated cone that provides a dynamic and enveloping seat, while the gently curved backrest adapts to the body, delivering a pleasant sensation of support. Visually striking side “wings” extend from the backrest, designed to cradle the back and hips and heighten the feeling of relaxation.
A visible zipper at the rear not only allows for easy removal of the cover but also serves as a distinctive design detail that connects it to the broader Papilio family.
Mini Papilio embodies the concept of a chair that "welcomes with grace"—as evoked by its name, Papilio, Latin for "butterfly". Naoto Fukasawa’s approach emphasizes human experience and natural behavior, shaping forms that feel inherently comfortable and intuitively inviting.
