Le Bambole sofa is designed by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia with structure in polyethylene with cold flexible polyurethane foam padding. Lining made of polyester fiber with a thermoplastic elastomer or expanded polyurethane insert, and upholstery available in fabric or leather. Nylon foot covers and thermoplastic tips. The collection offers two sofa sizes: the two-seater Bibambola and the three-seater Granbambola.
Together with the iconic Bambola armchair, the Bibambola and Granbambola sofas complete the celebrated Le Bambole collection, originally launched by Mario Bellini in 1972. One of the most important projects in the history of Italian design, it quickly gained international acclaim, winning the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award in 1979. From the outset, the collection represented a groundbreaking approach to seating: soft, enveloping shapes that suggested the absence of a rigid frame, offering a perfect balance between comfort and elasticity.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, this design icon has been reimagined using innovative construction methods and sustainable materials. The original internal structure—once made of metal and polyurethane—has been replaced with a shell composed of 98% recycled polyethylene, produced through rotational molding. This new outer shell, both sturdy and lightweight, houses a reduced amount of polyurethane foam and a thermoplastic elastomer insert, preserving the original plush feel while cutting material usage by 70% compared to the initial version.
The monomaterial underlining, made from recycled PET, is fully removable and designed to simplify disassembly, reinforcing the collection’s strong commitment to circular economy principles: each component can be easily separated and recycled. Enhancing the original offering, the Granbambola now comes with a deeper seat tailored to contemporary comfort standards, and the collection is also joined by the Bamboletto bed.
