More than two decades ago, Tuuci's quest began: its founder, Dougan Clarke, grew up in Miami spending every free moment on the ocean. A skillful boat rigger with an entrepreneurial spirit, he saw an opportunity to reinvent a product that allowed people to more comfortably connect with the outdoors.

Unsatisfied with the shade solutions that existed, he looked to marine technology to transform the category of shade from short-lived and ordinary to enduring and extraordinary. He started TUUCI in a boat rigging workshop in 1998, setting in motion a shade revolution that continues to set the industry standard.
