Sofo 1 armchair is designed in 1968 by Superstudio for Poltronova with frame obtained from cutted block of polyurethane and covered in cotton and viscose fabric, Verosa and Rosancio fabric, designed by Superstudio, base in moulded plastic, available in verosa [green/pink] or rosancio [pink/orange] colors.
Sofo is a seat to place in a row, like a train, or to stack to build solid, colorful mountains. It is simply a block made with an S—shaped cut from a cube of polyurethane, covered with fabric featuring two large stripes. The result of a very simple operation, without wasted material or thought. It presents itself as a compact, abstract, colorful object that communicates the joy of living, like things that arrive from another world. Put back into production by Poltronova on the occasion of the Superstudio 50 exhibition curated by Gabriele Mastrigli at the MAXXI in Rome (rearranged at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai), the Sofo, colorful and pop, is made up of two elements of equal importance and one essential on the other: the design of the shape and that of the fabric. The shape of the sofa is obtained by cutting the initial parallelepiped of expanded polyurethane in two, with a further subdivision in half to obtain the two armchairs. The upholstery fabric, an integral part of the project, in the green and pink / pink and orange striped versions with the names Verosa and Rosancio, as Natalini himself, who was the creator of it, remembers, paid tribute to a surrealist and futuristic attitude.
