Mesa table is designed by Lella and Massimo Vignelli for Poltrona Frau with a truncated cone base made of grey Pietra Serena stone shaped with a molded plastic toe cap. Ligurian slate top with stain-resistant surface treatment and steel sheet undertop.
The Mesa table, created in 1985, represents an icon of formal purity in the design world. Its structure is based on the combination of two essential geometric shapes: a circle and a cone, which together create a sculptural monolith with a primordial appearance. This balance between material solidity and visual lightness makes Mesa a unique and timeless piece.
The connection between the top and the column is made through a burnished steel tubing, on which a three-armed cross rests. This system makes it possible to precisely calibrate the position of the top, ensuring stability and aesthetic harmony. The surface of the table, thanks to traditional splitting technique, maintains the natural wrinkles and veins of the stone, giving the table an authentic and distinctive character.
In 2016, Poltrona Frau undertook philological work on the original design, resulting in new versions of the table based on unpublished designs by Vignelli: thus Mesa Due was born.
