The D.655.1 chest of drawers designed by Gio Ponti and riedited by Molteni&C has an elmwood frame that rests on satin brass feet. It is marked by hand-painted white drawer fronts with applied handles in various wood kinds (elm, Italian walnut, mahogany and rosewood). It was designed in several versions in the period from 1952 to 1955.
Molteni&C realizes a project involving re-makes of furniture and furnishings designed by renowned 20th century maestro Gio Ponti. Works that have an innovative energy due to the form, technique and historic moment in which they were designed, and that caused a break with conventional tastes and language. Remaking implies being respectful to the soul of the design updating it. New technologies, new materials, new functional solutions, but respecting the original. Industrially produced furniture, for everyone, not limited editions, manufactured with the utmost attention to detail, material and proportions, in Ponti’s footprints but renewed, to live in contemporary homes alongside contemporary pieces.
