Born in Copenhagen, Poul Henningsen (1894-1967) has left an indelible mark on Scandinavian design, with an eclectic career that saw him excel as a designer, architect, writer, and influential cultural critic. Initially drawn to traditional architecture, his professional journey took a significant turn towards lighting, where he became the undisputed master of light.

His collaboration with Louis Poulsen, initiated in 1924 and spanning a lifetime, produced some of the most iconic lamps of the 20th century. Starting with the revolutionary Paris lamp, Henningsen redefined the concept of illumination, emphasizing the need for indirect and soft light to ensure maximum comfort. His theories on the relationship between light, shadow, glare, and color remain foundational to lighting design today.

Among his most celebrated masterpieces are the PH 5 pendant lamp, known for its improved color rendering through the integration of red and blue hues, and the legendary PH Artichoke, a sculptural work composed of 72 elements that combine luminance and reflection without glare.
