Carlo Colombo: one of the masters of contemporary Italian design
Carlo Colombo, a prominent figure in the realm of Italian architecture and design, is distinguished by his innate ability to blend refined forms with impeccable functionality. Born in 1967 in Carimate, in the province of Como, Colombo underwent his formative years at the Polytechnic University of Milan under the guidance of Achille Castiglioni, learning the importance of proportions and materials from the outset.
His design career took off with the creation of the Kyoto bed, unveiled at the Milan Furniture Fair in 1992 and promptly noticed by Giulio Cappellini. Since then, his influence in the design world has been evident through collaborations with prestigious companies, including Cappellini, Giorgetti, Flexform, Flou, Antonio Lupi Design, Poliform, and many others.
A distinctive feature of Colombo's projects is the extraordinary synthesis of form and function, visible in every single piece of his extensive portfolio. Products like the Jeremy sideboard for Flexform, the Kumi sideboard for Gallotti&Radice, and the Baìa and Epoque bathtubs for Antonio Lupi Design showcase the versatility of his talent.
Beyond his role as a designer, Colombo has received numerous awards, including the Designer of the Year in 2014, the Elle Deco International Design Award in various editions, the Red Dot Design Award in 2012, and the prestigious Wallpaper* Design Award in 2019 for the "Albume" washbasins created in collaboration with Antoniolupi.
