555 Hayama Sideboard is designed by Patricia Urquiola for Cassina with frame in glossy lacquered MDF in various colors. Available in three version, with smooth or canneté doors:
- low sideboard with two leaf doors and clear glass internal shelves;
- high sideboard with two lacquered internal shelves and LED lighting;
- high sideboard with one clear glass internal shelf, two lacquered drawers and LED lighting.
The Japanese influence in the design of this geometric container is immediately evident. Like a Haori, the traditional Japanese jacket worn with a kimono, Hayama is characterised by the same formal cut which plays on volume and subtraction. The legs, oblique in relation to the main structure, are the distinctive element of this simple and elegant sideboard. Apparently minimal, its solid form is accentuated by thinned edges that lighten its appearance. Perfect for living and dining areas, The cabinet, in particular, stands on oblique legs in elegant contrast to the horizontal lines of the upper part, becoming the distinctive trait of a minimalist shape. The bar elicits a striking visual effect that lends depth to any space through a mirror that, on three sides, frames a shelf in extra-clear glass, while the lower part, made up of two centre drawers and two side compartments, is illuminated by LED lights. The piece is re-reading of the work of the architect Kazuhide Takahama who industrialized the antique lacquering tradition, expressing the clear desire to go beyond rationalism through the research of relations with the past.
