CH46/CH47 chair is designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn with structure in solid oak in various finishing and seat in handwoven paper cord natural or black color. The chair can be completed with a cushions in Loke leather.
Available with armrests (CH46) or without (CH47).
When, in 1966, Carl Hansen & Søn began work on the CH46 Wegner also provided them with the design of the chair in the armless version, model CH47. CH46 and CH47 are simple, functional, yet elegant chairs.
The design is probably inspired by southern European chairs and the American Shaker movement, modified according to Wegner's considerations especially those related to ergonomics.
In these chairs slopes and proportions are carefully coordinated to ensure adaptation to the human body. The curved back legs play an important role in the construction and balance of the chair. The backward curvature of the upper part ensures a comfortable inclination of the backrest, while the angle of the lower part ensures that the chair cannot fall backward. The seat of the chair is woven with paper ropes, and the two back bars are laminated from 3 different thicknesses of wood, then curved into a soft but taut arched shape. In the CH46 version, the armrest has the same elegant rounding at the front as the corresponding leg, while curving slightly upward toward the backrest, where it is firmly fixed between the two back bars. Legs and armrests have a slightly arched surface.
All these details have made the CH46 and CH47 chairs an iconic and timeless product suitable for so many settings: the dining room, conference rooms, and waiting rooms.
