F978 lounge chair, design by Geoffrey Harcourt in 1968 and produced by Artifort starting in 2006.
The chair has a resistant polyurethane white or black shell with Super Buffex foam and Dacron upholstery.
The base is in glossy aluminum or powder coating coloured. Cover in leather or fabric in a variety of colors.
The F978 is characterized by its simple, charismatic and austere appearance.
The aluminum base and the polyurethane shell are influenced from the Space Age trend in design and fashion during the late 60s while the leather seat adds a more classical and elegant touch.
Geoffrey Harcourt was born in 1935 and graduated from the Royal College of Art in London.
In 1962 he designed his first line of chairs produced by Dutch furniture manufacturer Artifort.
Initially Harcourt focused on chairs for offices, lobbies, and lounges, eventually he moved to designing chairs for homes.
The 042 line was released on the market in 1963 and became and international hit. Harcourt's philosophy is perfectly encapsulated in his words First people... then shapes' meaning that he always took pains to ensure his creations were particularly comfortable.
Geoffrey Harcourt was awarded the title Royal designer for Industry in 1978.
