Hugo Alvar Aalto was born in Kuortana, Finland in the yar 1898. In 1921 he graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic School in Helsinki. Wood as an organic material will never exhaust its technological possibilities. The immense forests in Finland supply the raw material. Aalto lays the foundation for his innovative forms by using movable wooden units and replacing the vertical and horizontal units with one single piece of wood. The wood is sistematically split and bent in every direction by slashes and the insertions of other layers.
