Achille Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni was an Italian designer of furniture, lighting, radiograms and other objects. Castiglioni was born on 16 February 1918 in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. He was the third son of the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni and his wife Livia Bolla. When the War was over, Castiglioni joined the architectural design practice that his brothers Livio and Pier Giacomo had started with Luigi Caccia Dominioni in 1938. Livio Castiglioni left the practice in 1952. From then until Pier Giacomo died in 1968, he and Achille worked as a team. Achille believed in experimentation; his method was to always start from scratch, stick to common sense, know the end goal and the means to achieve it.

Carlo Mollino

Carlo Mollino

Carlo Mollino, one of the most eclectic figures in the Italian artistic landscape, has left an indelible mark on the worlds of design and architecture. An architect, designer, photographer, and even an aviator, his multifaceted career was characterized by extraordinary versatility and an unmistakable artistic vision.

In the 1940s, Mollino embarked on his career as an interior designer and designer, but his influence extended far beyond these boundaries. His complex personality and ability to navigate various disciplines made him a unique figure in the 20th-century Italian art scene.

Mollino's masterpiece, the 1939 building of the Società Ippica Torinese, is just one of the many highlights of his career. After a six-year hiatus marked by a profound personal crisis, Mollino resumed his activity, giving us iconic architectural works such as the Auditorium Rai in Turin, the Chamber of Commerce in Turin, and the Regio Teatro dell'Opera.

However, it is in the field of interior design that Mollino's eclecticism is most tangibly expressed. His experimental vision of the home as a "unitary organism" is reflected in his furniture designs, where each component is intrinsically important. His works, exhibited in prestigious museums such as the MoMA in New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, represent a fusion of futuristic, decadent, rationalist, surrealist, metaphysical, and organic influences.

Carlo Mollino's legacy also lives on through his furnishings, unique pieces characterized by sinuous lines, disruptive elements, and sculptural elegance. Celebrated tables like the Arabesque (1949) and the Reale (1948), the Cavour desk (1949), the Ardea armchair (1946), and the Milo mirror (1938) have become emblems of his creative genius.

Today, through an exclusive collaboration with Zanotta, the company has made Mollino's works accessible, offering a unique opportunity to bring home authentic design icons. Charles and Ray Eames, the extraordinary couple of American designers and architects, have shaped the furniture landscape in the 20th century with their unparalleled genius and creativity. A destined meeting at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan in 1940 gave birth to a unique collaboration, both in life and in work.

Charles, an established architect and designer, along with Ray, a talented painter and artist, created iconic works that remain anchored in the history of modern design. From their early experiments with molded and curved plywood, which led to the celebrated Organic Chair awarded at the MoMA in New York in 1940, to the innovative La Chaise seat in fiberglass, the creative legacy of the Eames is a journey through futuristic forms and pioneering materials.

Their legendary contribution includes masterpieces such as the Eames Lounge Chair with its Ottoman companion (1956), the groundbreaking Eames Plastic Chairs, Aluminium Chairs, and Soft Pad Chairs, and the timeless Hang It All coat rack by Vitra. The duo also left a mark in architecture with the design of the Eames House in Los Angeles, considered the epitome of the "American home."

Through the Plyformes Wood Company, founded in 1942 to fulfill a commission from the US Navy, the Eames explored new frontiers in materials, such as fiberglass-reinforced polyester resin. Their solo exhibition at the MoMA in 1946 marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with Herman Miller, one of their main patrons, and the continuous production of groundbreaking pieces. Charles left us in 1978, followed by Ray in 1988, but their creative legacy lives on through continuous production by Vitra and Herman Miller.

Eileen Gray

Eileen Gray

Welcome to the extraordinary world of Eileen Gray, the Irish furniture designer and architect who left an indelible mark on the aesthetics of the International Style. Born in Enniscorthy, Ireland, in 1878, and passing away in Paris in 1976, Gray was a pioneer of the modern movement in architecture, making significant contributions to 20th-century design and furniture.

From an aristocratic Irish-Scottish family, Gray distinguished herself with exceptional skill in the art of lacquer, creating lacquered walls and decorative panels that captured attention from her early forays into the design world. Her talent and revolutionary vision then extended to the realm of furniture, with iconic works like the adjustable table E1027, now part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1978.

Gray dared to push beyond conventional boundaries, embracing tubular steel to craft cutting-edge furniture, even predating Le Corbusier in its use. Her Villa E-1027 on the French Riviera remains a masterpiece of Modernism, reopening to the public in 2015 after years of acclaim and success.

In addition to her contributions to furniture, Eileen Gray left a lasting legacy in the field of modern architecture. Her life and work are celebrated through a permanent exhibit at the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin, where visitors can immerse themselves in the timeless elegance of her furniture.

Today, Eileen Gray's pieces continue to be sought after as authentic works of art, meticulously reissued by the prestigious German brand ClassiCon. Explore our exclusive selection of furniture and furnishings designed by Eileen Gray, and bring home a piece of modern design history.

Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe

Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe

Welcome to the sublime fusion of form and function embodied in our exclusive Ludwig Mies van der Rohe collection. Celebrated as one of the pillars of the Modern Movement, Mies van der Rohe has left an indelible mark on architecture and design. His maxim "Less is More" permeates every detail of his masterpieces, a philosophy that has redefined the concept of timeless elegance.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, born in 1886 in Aachen, Germany, distinguished himself from a young age in the European artistic and architectural landscape. A collaborator with illustrious minds such as Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe quickly became a prominent figure in the Deutscher Werkbund and Bauhaus, directing the latter until its closure in 1933.

The German Pavilion at the 1929 Universal Exposition in Barcelona marked the pinnacle of his career, introducing the world to the iconic Barcelona chairs—a triumph of steel and leather that still exude timeless elegance today. The 1927 collection of steel furniture, MR, along with the Thonet S 533 cantilever chairs, showcases Mies van der Rohe's genius in marrying style and functionality.

Fleeing Nazi persecution, Mies van der Rohe moved to the United States, where his architectural vision revolutionized the urban landscape. Works such as the Seagram Building in New York and the Farnsworth House bear witness to his ability to shape the American architectural panorama.

Today, we take pride in presenting the Exclusive Ludwig Mies van der Rohe Collection—a meticulous selection of furniture that carries forward this visionary's legacy. Each piece is a tribute to his clean aesthetic and dedication to functional perfection.
